Player Selection

Recreational

  • Each registered player must participate in Assessments.
  • Coaches will evaluate players in 4 areas:
  1. Hitting
  2. Fielding
  3. Running
  4. Throwing

          Pitching will be evaluated separately.

  • Returning players will also be assessed on the end of season evaluation completed by their previous coach.

Draft

  • Head coaches only
  • Draft order will be picked out of a hat
  • Snake Format
  • Each team will pick a pitcher in the first
  • The draft will remain confidential as it is our belief that players in a recreational sport don’t need to know in what order they were selected

Recreational (playing out of designated age group)-

  • Char-Meck Softball does not allow players to play below their designated age group, regardless of their experience level.
  • A 6U player can request to play above their designated age group if the following requirements are met…
  1. Must have played a minimum of 2 season of tee ball or only have one remaining season of current age group
  2. Must attend the 8U assessments for coaches/Board representative to evaluate and agree that the player can safely play 8U
  3. Parent request with Board approval
  • A player can request to play above their designated age group if the following requirements are met…
  1. 3 Seasons of current age group under WCWAA
  2. Only 1 remaining season of current age group
  3. One All Star nomination
  4. Transferring from a different organization where already playing up
  5. Parent request with Board approval

Challenger

  • A team of 10-12 players (including 3 pitchers) will be comprised from all registered players.
  • Every player must submit an intent to tryout form PRIOR to assessments.
  • Mandatory tryouts will be held to evaluate:
  1. Hitting
  2. Fielding
  3. Running
  4. Throwing
  5. Pitching
  • Any player missing tryouts must provide a written response to the Board prior to assessments.
  • If there is enough interest, WCWAA will field two teams-  A(top) and B(developmental).

All Stars

  • All Star teams will be selected via a face to face coaches meeting.
  • Each WCWAA coach will nominate their top 2-4 players and an alternate- depending on how many teams are in an age group.
  • Coaches will select All Star nominees based on the following criteria-
  1. Overall Softball Skill Set
  2. Season Performance
  3. Softball Acumen
  4. Sportsmanship
  5. Effort
  • Goal is to have 10-12 players of which 3 are pitchers.
  • If there is enough interest, WCWAA will field two teams via draft.
  • Board will intervene as necessary if the coaches cannot agree on A Team.
  • There is no All Stars in the fall.

Outlaws

  • All players must pay before the coach is scheduled any field  time.
  • All players must be registered in the WCWAA system for insurance purposes.
